Illetes, Majorca (Mallorca), Balearic Islands, Spain
Illetes is a charming resort, with beauty and serenity, situated on the south coast with easy access to Palma (9km). During the day, enjoy strolls along the walkways leading to sandy coves, which are set into the rocks and framed by scented pines, or venture in to Palma for some sights and shopping. For golfers the 18 hole Royal Bendinat course is 2km away. Evenings are laid back with several bars. When dining out, this stylish resort offers a small number of restaurants and cafes.
Illetes has 3 main beaches and a few more very small beaches set in small rocky coves surrounded by hotels. At least one possibly more are private to the neighbouring hotel
Illetes Beach is the most popular beach and has fine golden sand and is smallish being 200 X 50 metres. It has a car park and the local information office say it has wheelchair access but my access was via steps. There is quite a descent from the road on the top of the backing cliffs.
Sun loungers and parasols are available along with pedalos.
There is a life guard post, bars and restaurants and with it's calm water the beach is very suitable for families with small children.
Backing the beach at higher levels are terraces with a selection of good bars / cafes / restaurants.
From the main road a side road with a hairpin bend leads down to a car park.
The beach continues to the north to concrete sun terraces in front of a hotel and above the rocky shoreline.
There is a bus stop on the main road

The smallest of the 3 beaches, 35 X 10 metres. It is a beautiful beach with sand and flat rock areas, A beach bar serving snacks. The beach is separated from the road by 10 - 20 metres of pine forest.
The islet Illa de sa Caleta lying 200 metres out and the narrow rocky low headland give the beach protection from waves.
On the other side of this headland with a square tower on it, is a second islet Illa de sa Torre. These 2 islets give the name to Illetes
To the rear of the beach lies the abandoned military fort that dates from the end of the 19th century.
The tower on the narrow headland was used as a watch and signal tower, 1 of several along the Calvia coastline

Es Fortí beach is located on the other side of the rocky headland a larger beach, 180 X 25 metres, with sandy, pebbly and rocky areas.
Also between the 2 beaches is a private area, a beach club for the military.
The rocky areas are ideal for snorkeling
