Description of Benalmadena

Benalmadena has developed into a large resort of 27 square kilometres consisting of 3 areas

• Benalmadena Pueblo. The area located inland from the western coastal strip of Benalmadena Costa.The original urban centre a retaining much of it's old Andalusian village structure
• Benalmadena Costa. the coastal strip with 9 km od beaches and cove and has a fabulous new marina & harbour.
• Arroyo del miel. The area located inland from the eastern coastal strip of Benalmadena Costa. This area is the location of businesses, the main majority of the local population and some very popular attractions

The resort is rather hilly especially cardiac hill, Avenida de Telefonica.

Location of Benalmadena

• Benalmadena is located 17km west of Malaga and Malaga airport, the gateway to the Costa del Sol, which is a few kilometres closer
• Also immediately to the east and joining Benalmadena is Torremolinos the main resort on the Costa del Sol

Benalmadena Attractions

Bil Bil Castle

Located on the sea front to the West of the Marina, Bil Bil castle is more of a land mark than an attraction. The red rust coloured painted building is in an arabic style not over interesting in it's self but the place does hold some interesting exibitions and concerts etc.

Benalmadena Marina

Virtually every body who visits Benalmadena comments on how fabulous the maria is, many say one of the finest in the world. It is good for sightseeing, shopping, restaurants and nightlife.

Paloma park - Free

• Beautiful park with very tame birds everywhere and cactus garden
• You can feed the ducks, swans & fish
• Located in the centre of Benalmadena
• On the other side is a Selwo Marina Dolphin park with daily shows

Promenade walk to Torremolinos

• From the Benalmadena marina to the headland between Torremolinos Playa de la Carihuela and Playa del bajondillo takes around 30 minutes to walk
• Add another 10 minutes to reach either the steps below the watch tower (or lift) to the top of the cliff to the touristy Calle San Miguel the main pedestrian only street in Torremolinos

Valley of The Eagles -

Located near the top Cable Car station is a fabulous demonstration show of birds of prey and there flying skills.

Windmill roundabout

An interesting roundabout to have a look at, especially if you have children. Located on the main sea front road between the Marina & Bil Bil Castle. The windmill is a steel fram structure with about 100 large childrens style of windmills on its many arms.

Benalmadena Beaches

• The long narrow, and now great beaches of Benalmadena are backed by a smart promenade. 
• The original beaches of sand, shell & shingle have been magnificently improved by bringing in multi lorry loads of grey sand , these improved man made beaches are protected by rocky outcrops
• The better beaches are towards the east side of the town

Benalmadena Nightlife & Bars

• There is plenty of nightlife in Benalmadena, you will find a selection of bars, pubs & cafes along the sea front, especially at the marina.
• Also fairly close by is 24 Hour Square, actually thr well known Plaza Sol y Mar it has undergone major redevelopent and is not as good as it used to be, but still worth a visit. Not as upmarket as the Marina and therefore lower prices
