Spanish Resort Tourist Information & Guide

Cala Canutells - Es Canttells

Cala Canutells Bay
Cala Canutells Bay

Cala Canutells is a small, cosy resort nuzzling quietly on a hill above the dazzling coast. Peering out over azure Mediterranean waters, its star attraction is a swathe of white beach, a lovely spot for soaking up the hot Minorcan sunbeams. A former fishing village, you'll still see fishermen in tiny boats casting their nets into the waves. A supermarket and bar are the only other indications of tourism as Spanish authenticity prevails.

Beaches

The white, sandy beach at Cala Canutells nestles quietly in a deep bay, secluded by low-lying cliffs on either side. Protected from the winds, the sea is shallow, calm and ideal for young children.

Shopping

Shopping in Cala Canutells is limited to the essentials, but the neighbouring town of San Climent has a greater choice. Renowned for leather goods, Minorca is a great place to buy handbags, jackets and footwear. Pottery and jewellery are also good value choices and a lovely reminder of your time on this delightful isle.

Nightlife

This resort exudes peace, quiet and tranquillity, so evenings tend to focus around the hotel or the small local restaurants and bars.

Local Specialities

The few tavernas in Cala Canutells serve delicious, authentic cuisine. Minorca's capital Mahon lays claim to the discovery of mayonnaise, which is often found accompanying the island's excellent variety of succulent fish and seafood. Try 'caldereta de laguosta' - a delicious lobster soup often served with garlic mayonnaise. Compliment your meal with some of Minorca's highly perfumed gin - a legacy of the British rule.
